Chemical Dependency Intensive Outpatient Program

Our Program

Atlantic Psychiatric Services Chemical Dependency Intensive Outpatient Program offers a safe and effective treatment for chemically dependent patients. Our program uses a biological, psychological and social model to assess patient needs and their response to treatment. Our treatment team's goal is to provide each patient with the tools they need to live a chemically free life. Treatment focus on mental health, physical well-being, relationships and work helps individuals achieve improvement in their quality of life.

The primary treatment is group therapy including weekly family involvement. Additional individual, family or medication treatment may be added to decrease psychiatric symptoms. Patients regularly attend AA or NA community meetings as a part of our program. Continuing care groups are offered following discharge from the program to help patients maintain Recovery.

Admission

Patients are referred to the program from a variety of sources including psychological practitioners, family doctors, community based substance abuse treatment programs, court systems and self-referral. Typically, people who have been unable to stop substance abuse on their own or through a lower level of care are recommended for the Intensive Outpatient Program. Some patients enter the program following inpatient medical detoxification; or, as a step down from hospital rehabilitation programs.

Patients selected for admission must be able to participate in all groups without the risk of self-harm or danger to others. The treatment contract reflects motivation for change and participation in all scheduled meetings.

All patients have an initial assessment with a licensed mental health professional.
